Women in Politics: A Comparison Between Switzerland and Nigeria

The representation of women in politics has been a hot topic of discussion all around the world. In the 2019 general elections, only about 4% of the seats in the National Assembly were held by women. Both Switzerland and Nigeria have made efforts to increase the representation of women in politics, but there are still significant barriers that prevent women from fully participating in the political process. These barriers include cultural norms, lack of access to resources and education, as well as institutionalized discrimination. However, there are also promising signs of progress, such as the implementation of gender quotas and policies that promote women's empowerment in both countries. In conclusion, the representation of women in politics is a crucial aspect of achieving gender equality and creating inclusive and diverse societies. While Switzerland and Nigeria have different political landscapes and face unique challenges, both countries have a responsibility to work towards creating more opportunities for women to participate in politics.
